All contestants were given a set of vintage garment photos to use as inspiration and a set of Pantone colors to chose from for garment color. Contestants were then asked to create a sketch, a technical flat, a Gerber AccuMark pattern, a small tech pack, and a finished garment. 20 semi-finalists were chosen from over 60 submissions. The chosen inspiration dress was the Rose Quartz Guy Meliet mini dress and Lavender Fog, both can be seen in competition guidelines. The dress takes inspiration from the short hem, oversized buttons, back tab, side pockets, and curving style lines. The boatneck neckline and asymmetric curved front closure was chosen to create a dress that feels like a modern spin on 60s minis.
